INTERVJU MED JIMMIE NICOL
GÖSTA:
When were you in The Spotnicks?
JIMMIE:
1965 to 1967.
GÖSTA:
How did you came to The Spotnicks?
JIMMIE:
It was marvellous, I recieved two thelephone calls one day. One to do West Side Story and the other one to come with Spotncis. So I decided to come with Spotnicks.
GÖSTA:
You haven’t changed your mind?
JIMMIE:
No, I had reached as far as I could go as a studio musician in England-and I wanted to get away, I wanted to see the world and Spotnicks offered me that opportunity. And 24 years of age it was time that I started to learn and see how others cultures are and see how other people live and the opportunity Spotnicks gave me was exactly that.
GÖSTA:
What was your first impression of Spotnicks?
JIMMIE:
Unusual…
At that particular time they were riding extremely high in many countries: Japan, Mexico. We went to Hawaii and they were wonderful people. When I first came here: the reception: the smörgårdsbord, the sill, its really wonderful. They really were true ambassadors, Swedish ambassadors. One could not help get the feeling of true hospitality of the Sswedish people. Wonderful.
GÖSTA:
What did you remember most from your time in Spotnicks?
JIMMIE:
Friendship and travel of course and Roland Ferneborg, the manager, He was like a godfather to all of us. Of course we had our ups and downs as any group of people living so close to each other do – travelling, but it was really wonderful.
GÖSTA:
Jimmie, can you descibe The Spotnick’s sound?
JIMMIE:
Spotnick’s sound is very unusual. The nearest thing is the Shadows but musically there is a tremendous difference. Bosse has a sound, he created it from when he was very young he’s kept it. I was very glad to hear it hasn’t changed.
I haven’t heard Spotnicks – as I said – in 19 years. It still is the same.
Quite they progressed but they changed with the time. They have modern music, they play modern tunes, but still that sound is still there.
They’re distinct, they’re – ever original. They are the only ones in the world.
There will only be one Bosse Winberg in the world.
GÖSTA:
Jimmie, you were drummer once in another band. I’ve forgotten the name… What was the name again?
JIMMIE:
I was drummer in a lots of groups. I’m thinking the one you are thinking about is The Beatles?
GÖSTA:
Oh yes.
JIMMIE:
You remember?
GÖSTA:
Can you say anything about that time? With the Beatles?
JIMMIE:
Can I say..?
I was… Again I received a telephone call to deputies for Ringo Starr. It was cleared by the powers to be and… really… truly.
I went with them for three weeks. We went to Holland, Denmark, Australia and Hong Kong.
Hong Kong they died a terrible death.
Australia was fantastic. When one play with them you can’t hear anything. They are thousands of people. Wonderful reception everywhere.
Musically not stimulating at all.
Förmodligen var intervjun med Jimmie längre än så här men anteckningarna saknas för resterande del.
