NOT FOR SALE
There are a number of records with The Spotnicks that were not for sale on the official market. Often these records are called ”Promos” but this does not always mean that they were intended for ”Promotion” of upcoming releases.
Instead, it may be sample pressings for tests or to be circulated between the record company’s various departments for review, control and gathering of opinions or to be archived.
There are several examples of records intended for marketing that were mostly given out for free for playing on various radio stations, but there are also examples of records that would be played in jukeboxes in cafeterias, bars etc.
German Polydor issued a number of so-called Information Records with the purpose of informing the bransch about current releases.
Some companies and radio stations made their own productions for advertising purposes were distributed free of charge to customers and listeners.
There are thus many different variants of ”Promos” and for The Spotnicks it’s the Test samples that dominates but all types are represented.
For collectors, this type of advance made records are very attractive because they are rare due to relatively small editions.
This report also includes the records that the members made for own use and therefore were not for sale on the market either. There are the two records from 1959 and 1960 with The Rebels plus the so-called The ”Gröna Lund record” from 1965.
