2024-10-27 THE SPOTNICKS at the LORENSBERG THEATER in GOTHENBURG
A packed out Lorensberg Theater in Gothenburg was treated to a very well-executed concert that brought back many fond memories.
For just over two hours, many well-known songs from The Spotnick’s repertoire were performed. In addition, the audience got some real surprises.
Read Lasse Kjellin’s review of the performance:
On Stage: The Spotnicks
Sold out salon. The theater has 797 seats.
High average age and high expectations of the audience.
The sound mix was superb. A very good soundstage.
There was good separation between voices and instruments.
The drums were perfectly tuned (it makes an old drummer happy).
So how was the show?
The introduction wanted to bring the audience to the early 60s. The life, politics and music of the time.
A bit messy in my opinion, but okay.
Then came the intro to Amapola and everything fell into place.
Stefan managed a dressy snack, it was sweet and salty without major excesses.
Song after song was unrolled and performed in style.
Filling Bo Winberg’s suit is no easy match. Everyone who plays guitar knows that.
Lennart does it with that honor.
The entire band is very tight. Bass and drums steer the whole so it swings nicely.
Ove and Arne back up the solo guitar very well.
Occasionally, Ove inserts delicious fills into Lennart’s solo playing.
When Ove takes over the solo playing, it burns in the songs. It complements the traditional Spotnicks sound in a way that I really like.
Björn Fryklund behind the drums is incomparably good.
His homage to the first four drummers Ove Johansson, Derek Skinner, Jimmie Nicols and Tommy Tausis was superb.
The song numbers were performed with tight and strong voices with fine vocal singing. Neat.
A finely tuned tribute to our departed idols was performed and the audience saluted with warm applause for each name that was mentioned.
Even Tim Berling AVIICI was celebrated, this with a cover of his composition Wake me up.
Very well performed by the band and sung by Ove.
So to tonight’s big surprise.
Jesper and Joacim Starander, Bob Lander’s sons, are called onto the stage.
As you know, the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree.
These guys know their stuff.
Together with the band, they performed a few songs to the great delight of the audience.
This was a well rehearsed and executed show.
The song choice reflected The Spotnick’s career in a good way.
The band didn’t shy away from performing an ABBA song, or for that matter even a fat ZZ Top song.
Everything very well done and with love for our old idols.
