INTERVIEW WITH BJÖRN THELIN AND BOB LANDER
/Be Bop A Lula is playing/
BJÖRN:
This is actually The Rebels – it’s me and Bob playing. I play backing guitar or lead guitar and double bass and you (Bob) play on a chair and beat and comp.
BOB:
Yes, you sing and I sing the second part and so on, but you also play solo guitar in the background.
BJÖRN:
Yes yes, if you can now call it solo guitar.
BOB:
Advanced…
BJÖRN:
This was done in Erdman Music Shop, in a shop that was here in Gothenburg, and I want to say that… if you bring this up, I think it was very interesting to do this.
And I think that… I would like to point out that Erdman meant a lot to me and Bobban, that is, morally and financially. Well, not that he gave us money, but we never had to pay for studio time, for example, and it was a lot of money.
And I think that if Erdmans had been in Stockholm next to a gramophone company, I actually think there would have been a record out of this and then I don’t think Spotnicks would have ever come into being, that is.
I do not think so. Or what do you say?
BOB:
Well, it would have been exactly as you said, but there were no companies in Gothenburg.
GÖSTA:
Okay, so we’ll take this while you were in Mexico and followed the climb of Karelia on the charts in Japan.
BJÖRN:
I remember one thing that was quite funny and I thought they were an interesting thing. When we saw that the song was climbing up in Japan at the hotel and when we were sitting in the cafeteria in the lobby of the hotel, Winberg said this: that if we sell so that we get a gold record in Japan, everyone should get a brand new Folkwagon.
And I especially thank you for that. (Laughter) Yes, retroactively that is, I might get it if… /mumble/
Now follows an episode about England, Stickan Andersson, Berlin, etc. but it is not reproduced in detail in the notes, only as a brief summary:
GÖSTA:
England memories?
BOB:
Kicked out, tired, Bosse wasn’t feeling well, called Bruce Baxter, scratching at the pub. Artists like Bobby Rydell, Helena Shapiro, Brian Poole & Tremeloes. Package show, the bassist who froze to death…
BOB & BJÖRN:
M1… Beatles…
GÖSTA:
First Manager?
BJÖRN:
The knitting… (a longer outlay)
GÖSTA:
Berlin?
BOB & BJÖRN:
Tough job incredibly educational, twist comp, Ove tired in the arm, insider for musicians… (both talking in each other’s mouths)
